In the book, Esperanza made many sacrifices. An example of a sacrifice was her move from Mexico to America. In Mexico, She lived a wealthy lifestyle with maids and servants that would make meals and do her chores. In California, she was not rich like she was in Mexico. She had to work for her daily needs like food and clothing. It was a difficult life. I think this would make a Lent sacrifice extremely easy for Esperanza. I also think she now knows the importance of sacrifice and therefore would understand how fasting helps her remember Jesus’s sacrifice.
