The Final Four!

Each grade voted on characters from book club novels to make the field of 32 characters. Below is each grade’s final four!

Games were played by students representing each character and engaging in a debate about what character best represents the Cardinal Values.

I’m still wondering how Old Man Behrman from The Last Leaf made it past he first round…

Number the Stars

Helping Ellen’s family escape to Sweden was a bad idea. It was too dangerous and could have cost another family member their lives. For example, Annemarie could have been harmed or even killed when the soldiers found her with the basket. What if they would have realized the handkerchief was used to ruin the dog’s sense of smell? In addition, we found out that Lise was killed because she was part of the Resistance. Also, we know the German soldiers searched the boats for hidden Jews. Peter Neilsen could have easily been killed if they would have found the hidden passengers. Helping Ellen’s family put the Rosen’s lives at risk and that is too much of a price to pay for helping their friends. They should have just stayed home and waited for the war to end. Maybe Lise would still be alive if they didn’t try and help.
